History of Performer / Band

W-S Burn is Pixie and Steve Gigante. Pixie sings and plays wind chimes strung on a floor lamp. Steve plays electric and acoustic guitars. He is from Bethlehem, PA. They met April, 2004 while Steve was on tour. Pixie needed a ride out of town, and Steve kindly agreed to take her as far as his next gig. At one point during the commute, Pixie started singing. Steve grabbed his Radio Shack hand-held recorder and, with Pixie's approval, taped 6 songs a cappella all the while hearing guitar parts in his head - a week and a half later they met up again at the Free Texas Festival in Winston-Salem, fell in love, and have been together (for the most part) ever since, recording anywhere and everywhere - but mostly in and around Knoxville, TN. They've released 5 collections of songs so far, including "Two Dreams Tucked in Tight"(Foxglove 049) on Brad Rose's Digitalis Industries imprint, Foxglove. They've toured 3 times - and have shared stages with Deerhoof, Xiu Xiu, Faun Fables, Wooden Wand, Jana Hunter, Red Hunter (Peter & the Wolf), Alasdair Roberts, Tarantula A.D., Marissa Nadler, the Weird Weeds, John Allingham (of the Cherry Blossoms), Tiger Saw, and Hubcap City (from Belgium). They recently were invited by David Garland to tape an episode of 'Spinning on Air' on WNYC in New York City. Their music has been described as "simultaneously stark, intense, warm, and involving" (WNYC), "hauntingly beautiful" (Metro Pulse), and "...simply the most appropriate and honest sound to capture a feeling of exile, desolation, and repeated heartbreak" (Stylus Magazine). But while the songs may be sad or somber, they are "...somehow made sublime with melodies so gorgeous" (Whiskey & Apples).

Press Reviews / Credits "Remarkable...versatile...a wealth of dignity and loneliness."—Stylus Magazine

"The tape hisses, a guitar strikes one note at a time like a funeral dirge...In the background you can hear a distant church bell ring three times and it's not some post-production trick...such sadness there, but somehow it's made sublime with melodies so gorgeous."—Whiskey & Apples

"I had the feeling that I was sitting with my ear against the heat vent...The curiosity became too much and I e-mailed Pixie asking if she would do an interview. I did not get a reply."—Pop Sheep

"Simultaneously stark, intense, warm, and involing."—David Garland of WNYC

"W-S Burn play with such honesty and conviction that it would be impossible to ignore them."—The Weird Weeds in Dusted Magazine
