History of Performer / Band |
One of the most exciting contributions
to the music and art scene in Northern Nevada and Northern
California is Slow Djinn Fez. With decades of performing
and recording experience, its members reads like a Who's
Who of world and folk music. Slow Djinn Fez knows you'll
enjoy our shows as much as we enjoy performing them.
Dennis Fecko on bass guitar is an honors graduate of
the Musician's Institute of Los Angeles, CA. A Reno
native, Dennis has played musical styles as diverse
as Classical to Metal to Reggae. He has performed with
some Reno favorites including the TMCC Jazz Ensemble,
The Maytan Soul Band, and The
Landrus Project.
Jim Grace grew up in the wilds of Ohio where he began
playing the clarinet at the tender age of 11. Jim has
over 20 years of experience honing his skills in front
of audiences as part of jazz bands, marching bands,
and theater pit bands.
Carl Hylin on tanbur plays a half-dozen different instruments,
in styles ranging from madrigals to punk rock. While
a pre-show performer for Kentucky's Troubadour
Concert Series, he warmed up audiences for Dave
Brubeck, Emmy Lou Harris, Chet Atkins and other greats.
Carl has also played with the Sierra
Nevada Balalaika Society, and currently plays in
the contemporary Irish band Crannóg Bheag and
the Irish/American string band Wild Sage.
Fred Morgan got his start playing dumbek in Las Vegas
Nevada during the 1970's. A veteran of casino stage
shows, conventions, and special events, Fred has been
playing for renaissance fairs, history clubs, and private
parties throughout Northern California for the past
20 years.
Mike Jones has been playing percussion for about ten
years. He enjoys working with dancers and is a regular
at the Valhalla Renaissance Fair, amateur nights in
the Reno area, and parties for medieval enthusiasts.
Bennett Kottler plays oud and guitar. With New York
based Cayuga Klezmer Revival, he recorded a CD and played
East-European dance music at a prison as well as bars,
concert halls, & outdoor festivals. With the improvisational
band, Found Objects, he experimented with sound and
poetry in clubs such as New York City's renowned CBGBs.
Pam Lewiston has been playing the violin since the
age of nine. Classically trained, she has performed
in professional quartets and university orchestras.
Having performed with bellydancing groups in the area,
Pam now adds her talents in middle-eastern dance and
music to Slow Djinn Fez. |
