The story behind the name "NineDollarNap"

One hot Sunday afternoon Clifford, Stacey, family and friends headed to the movie theater to see a family movie and to escape the heat of the day. Clifford, for whatever reason that is most certainly unimportant now, was in a particularly foul mood. Grumbling and scowling as they went into the theater, Clifford could not bring himself to be cordial to anyone. As concerned friends and family inquired as to what his issue was, the more he became increasingly irritable. Once inside the theater, having received his consolatory beverage and treat (Diet Pepsi and refrigerated Junior Mints) Clifford settled into his reclining theater chair, put his sunglasses back on, and stared at the scrolling advertisements on the screen (body language says, “Leave me alone”) counting the minutes until the movie would start and usher him into the anonymity of darkness. Once the moment of bliss arrived, Clifford slipped off into a 90-minute nap while others enjoyed their G-rated entertainment. By the time credits rolled, a new man emerged. Civil. Smiling. Happy. Thus it is now known far and wide that Clifford took a $9.00 nap, and it made all of the difference in the world to him. He has been known to remark that it was worth every penny.

More than just a story about spending $9.00 to take a nap, NineDollarNap is a concept: The idea that peace and rest come at a cost. The greater the peace and rest you seek, the greater the cost. For example, taking an undisturbed nap in an air-conditioned building without the disruptions of phones, visitors and children may cost you $9.00. A week of vacation in a tropical locale will cost considerably more! The ultimate peace and rest that is eternal costs everything. Fortunately, it is a price already paid in the person and sacrifice of Jesus Christ, our personal and ultimate peace and rest for the members of NineDollarNap. Our hope is that as you come and enjoy our music the few dollars you have dropped on your latte (or whatever) will buy you an hour or so with us and that you will truly be able to slow down and enjoy yourself as you enjoy our music.
