History of Performer / Band |
Matthew Blake was born and raised in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains of western North Carolina. His music is inspired by the bluegrass and folk guitars that are such a rich part of the Blue Ridge tradition. Blending a homegrown sound with melodies that you can’t help but sing along with, Matthew’s unmistakable voice and casual demeanor invite an audience into an experience that is as much story as it is song.
In 2004, Matthew moved “out West,” spending 2 years in Reno, NV, before making a home in the Gaslamp District of downtown San Diego. There he completed his first album at the end of 2006, “Back As Far As We Can Go,” a collection of 11 songs that showcase his versatility and highlight his passion to see people enjoying life in community. It’s often said that nothing brings people together like music, and Matthew’s songs are meant to do just that. Whether he is strumming an acoustic at a solo coffeehouse gig or belting out choruses with his bandmates from the back of a bar, Matthew continually impresses with his powerful voice and genuine spirit as he sings songs that celebrate everyday moments and connect people to each other.
