History of Performer / Band |
Raised in the town of Wasilla, Alaska (the real start
of the Iditarod), Hopper first started teaching himself
to play guitar as in high school and fronted St. Valentino.
While attending college courses at the University of
Alaska, Anchorage he formed what would become one of
the most revered Alaskan rock n' roll bands, The Roman
Candles. At their peak, The Candles were voted best
local band by the Anchorage Press in 2003, released
their "Firecracker" EP on on international
indie Absalom Recordings, self-released, engineered,
and produced their own debut "Bang! Bang! Bang!"
and toured the west coast. During their Alaskan tenure,
Hopper won Alaska Public Radio Network's rock songwriting
award for penning the tune "Stick It To Your Man".
"Bang! Bang! Bang!" climbed to #134 on CMJ's
Top 200 chart and their tour was a rollicking success.
With his band currently in a lineup flux, Hopper has
done what he always does when a band isn't available:
he picks up the acoustic guitar and plays the songs
himself.
Inspired by the troubadour/vagabond lifestyle detailed
in books such as "Into the Wild" by Jon Krakauer
and Ellis Paul's "Note From the Road" he began
to travel the West coast, and currently is holed up
in Santa Monica, CA working on new material, recording
demos and performing solo around the state of California
while he plots the next move.
