History of Performer / Band

Carlos Ocampo plays guitar, mandolin and charango as well as the Andean wind instruments quena and zampoña. Carlos is director and member of a 6 person band "Kuntur Taki" in Machu Picchu Pueblo, Cusco, Peru and current president of the Association of Musicians of Machu Picchu (AMMTA). Carlos also founded the "Puya Yurak" group in Arequipa, Peru.

Marco Antonio Ocampo (artistic name Toño Zampoña) plays as a "One Man Andean Band" in Machu Picchu Pueblo, Cusco, Peru. He plays three instruments at one time: zampoña, ronroco (big charango), and bombo. Marco Antonio is ex-director of the group "Cusco Inka" and is ex-director of "La Estudiantina" at Cenfotur (a dance troop at the Peruvian National Tourism Institute).

Both Carlos and Toño are very active musically in Machu Picchu Pueblo and with the preservation of their ancestral cultures. The brothers formed "Kantu" last year in order to present cultural programs of dance, music, history and geography at schools in the United States. Both sing in Spanish, Quechua (language of the Incas) and in Aymara (language from the region of Titicaca). This is their second tour to Northern Nevada.
