History of Performer / Band |
Judith Ames has been involved in music all of her life, but (apart from school and church choirs), mostly as an instrumentalist, and in the classical genre (piano and French horn, along with many years as a church organist), plus folk guitar and voice in the 1970s. In the last few years, encouraged by musician friends and the folks at the Stanford Jazz Workshop, she is well on her way to becoming an accomplished jazz vocalist, where her niche includes the swing and bebop eras, along with Latin tunes in Portuguese or Spanish.
In the Bay Area she has done a solo showcase and several "Divas" shows (with Jackie Coulter, Gina Harris, Rosa Johnson, and Kathy Logan), at Kelly's of Alameda, and has shared the stage with such notables as Kelly Park, Rocky Tatarelli, John Wiitala, Reid Whatley, Clifford Lamb, Mark Little, Dai Chihara, Claudio Medeiros, and Stuart Yasaki. In the Bay Area and in Reno she has sung at casuals and private parties, is a regular at EJ's jazz jams, and has performed with (and/or been invited to sit in with) Phil Jerome, Bob Greenwood, Dave Kubin, Neil Strocchio, Werner Siepenkothen ("Siep"), Robert Bedinger, Linda Alexander, Tony Cataldo, Peter Supersano, Buddy Wright, Rick Metz, Tristan Selzler, and others.
She has a recent CD recorded at Lane Cameron Studios, available
through Judith and featuring Bob Greenwood, Phil Jerome, Neil Strocchio,
and Rocky Tatarelli, while a more extensive project is in the works.
Look for her with a dynamite quartet at Walden's Coffeehouse, in the "featured performer" slot, on Fri., Dec. 16, from 9 to 10 pm, and at the Sierra Arts Foundation's acclaimed "Concert in the Gallery" series from 12 to 1 pm on Jan. 6, in the Riverside Hotel gallery. Judith will spend the spring semester of 2006 teaching and studying with UNR's USAC program in Madrid, returning to Reno and the Bay Area at the end of May.
