People compare Jen to: Sarah Shannon of Velocity Girl, or Suzanne Vega, or Natalie Merchant, or Cat Power, or Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley. Maybe sometimes PJ Harvey, too. Mark from Mr. Vague says "Kristin Hersh" and, when on tour in July 2005, people kept playing the "Ani DiFranco" card (of course that's flattering because Ani is very talented, but it's not a terribly accurate comparison). Bandmates Dan and Tim from Wax Models say the new stuff sounds like Nick Drake, which is the highest possible praise. |
History of Performer / Band |
Jen Scaffidi’s strength lies in her ability to charm audiences with her intimate and exuberant presence. Years of slugging it out in punk and power-pop bands have given her an up-tempo edge not commonly seen in solo performers. Youthful obsessions with the 60s and 70s cemented her quest for the perfect pop song. A well-rounded record collection has allowed her to fully explore her alt-country and post-hardcore tendencies without sacrificing originality. New audiences are constantly surprised by her versatility as a performer.
Jen has been an integral part of the Northern Nevada music scene for many years, and has a reputation for her charisma — on stage and off — and her charming yet engaging style. From Crushstory to The Spark, Jen has performed with a number of bands, most recently Wax Models and Blunderbusst, and her musical acquaintances bridge many a genre gap. This diversity, combined with her rich sense of humor and a natural professionalism, has afforded her success with booking, promoting, and organizing a number of large charity benefits.
