History of Performer / Band

Damien DeRose AKA peasant, currently resides in Doylestown. Doylestown is an enigma, wrapped in a question, inside a greater truth... His first "real" album, Sow and Scatter, is a 30 minute long album recorded, written, and tweaked in his hole-in-the-wall apartment, overlooking the rooftops of Doylestown. Sow and Scatter is a first glimpse of an ambitious and self-directed young artist's maturing thoughts and emotions. The album is a question, happy, and sad, and all wrapped up in the story of a passionate and idealistic artist rapidly growing out of his small hometown.

Damien has been making music for some time. His first "real band" was called Black Light Special and he was the drummer. They formed in his sophomore year of High School, and broke up after about two years of playing together. The "success" of BLS led Damien to pursue music much more seriously. His ex-bandmates have also formed new projects, such as Below Carmine, and Seth Kallen has undertaken a solo career of his own. Damien still plays drums on his own recordings, and also for the band Theodicy.

After the illustrious undertaking known as Black Light Special, Damien "changed course". Still playing drums actively, his musical taste began to broadly expand and his favorites changed from more popular and widely known acts like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against the Machine and the Beach Boys to Hella, Q n not U, Elliot Smith, Mogwai, the Appleseed Cast, Do Make Say Think, Explosions in the Sky, Deerhoof Apple, The White Stripes, the microphones, and many others.

As well as musical artists, Damien has also studied and been heavily inspired by the works of Salvadore Dali, Diego Rivera, and many of the very worthy yet hardly noticed local artists in the Philadelphia area. As of right now, when Damien takes the stage he prefers to be called Peasant, because that's what he feels like, change is surely inevitable, but for right now, look for him playing shows on the east coast from Maryland to Massachusetts, he would love to tour this summer and chances are, even if it's just him and a car, he's gonna want out of his cozy little hole in the wall in Doylestown. Go and get some wordly inspiration, you know.
